Technical bulletin for EuroStone quartz in buffets, serving lines and food service counters

Important: EuroStone will not warranty material if these guidelines are not followed.

General Requirements

  • •Adequate support is required directly underneath any load. The stone should not be used to transfer any bending and/or shear loads from external equipment to supporting structures.
  • •Must accommodate expansion and contraction to minimize the buildup of any mechanical and thermal stresses.
  • •All external loads must be limited to compressive loads. Compressive loads should never exceed the limits as provided in the EuroStone Technical Specifications.
  • •EuroStone must be insulated from heated food service equipment.
  • •Provide adequate distance between the material and any adjacent walls and/or cabinets or any other possible constraint. We recommend a minimum of 1/8" clearance between the surface and any columns or brackets that penetrate through the material.

Support Drawing

EuroStone food service support drawing showing support ring, cutouts, flexible expansion joint, 3/4 inch underlayment and 2x6 supports

Notes

  • •Flexible expansion joints are highly recommended. In the event these joints are not acceptable to the end user, a minimum of 3 layers of Nomex insulation are required.
  • •All underlayment support materials should be moisture resistant.
  • •If shimming is required, shim from below the underlayment and not between the underlayment and the stone.

Food Service Hot & Cold Cutouts

  • •Provide a minimum 1/4" radius on inside corners of cutouts.
  • •Ease all top and bottom edges.
  • •Cutouts must be at least 6" apart.
  • •Smooth the entire interior of the cutout to remove any chatter or chipping. Use a minimum of 120 grit diamond.
  • •Provide space for insulating materials and extra equipment support. Always isolate the weight of a drop-in food well with additional supports.
  • •Use a minimum of two (2) layers of Nomex insulation as referenced in General Requirements. Affix the Nomex insulation with a minimum 4ml aluminum tape, ensuring that the tape does not create a direct heat transfer to the stone.
  • •Provide a minimum 1/8" gap between the appliance and the edge of the cutout to allow for expansion and/or contraction.
  • •Support materials (underlayment) should be moisture resistant.
  • •All deck (surface) seams require structural support. The structural support should be flush with the supporting substrate. If shimming is required, shim from below the underlayment, not the stone.
  • •Hot & Cold Wells should be separated by a minimum of 12" between cutouts.
  • •Do not undermount in any manner which causes the stone to become part of the tray.

Surface Seams

  • •Surface seams should be flexible expansion joints a minimum of 1/8" filled with 100% silicone (highly recommended).
  • •Cover strips such as "T" molding may be used to cover expansion seams.
  • •Hard seams are acceptable if the stone is insulated with a minimum of three (3) layers of Nomex insulation.
  • •Avoid seams through cutouts or inside corners.

Heat Lamps

  • •Do not attach heat lamps directly to stone; attach to the supporting structure.
  • •Drill through the material and attach the heat lamp to the support structure below.
  • •Provide minimum 1/8" radial clearance between the stone and any columns or brackets penetrating the material.
  • •Do not create any hot spots on the stone by focusing the heat lamp only on a particular section. Provide uniform heat across the entire surface of the stone.

Sneeze Guards

  • •Mount sneeze guards directly to the support structure.
  • •Do not attach sneeze guards directly to the stone.
  • •Provide minimum 1/8" radial clearance between the stone and any columns or brackets penetrating the material.
